I've had a lot of experience with haunted houses in my lifetime. Not the kind where you go purposefully try to scare yourself and people run around with chain saws chasing people... well, honestly, that kind too, but that's not what I'm talking about currently.
Story 1
When I was a kid, maybe 7 years old, I took a "Magic" book with me to a friend's sleepover. All of my friends from dance were at this friend's house. My magic book told me how to give the illusion of making a ghost. It was a simple scientific experiment that you put in the fridge and when you get it out, it smokes - or steams. Well, we made the "ghost" and put it in the fridge to do it's thing. We went off and played in the living room for a while. So, an hour or two later we went and got the bottle out of the fridge. It didn't work. No steam, no smoke, no ghost, no nothing. Ugh. One of my friends pipes up "what if it escaped?" Not one to immediately follow the flock, I replied "I don't think it worked."
The friend jumps in "but it did work and the ghost escaped!"
I wish I'd had the presence of mind to ask her "how do you know this? Did your ghost friend tell you?!" But I was a kid, and super susceptible to scary stuffs.
We carried the bottle in the living room, waiting to see if "the ghost" would appear. I figured I could stop the friend saying the ghost escaped quite easily. So I said, "all right. If a ghost is here, when I clap my hands, make your presence known." Sh!t you not, the whole freaking book case fell. Not just the case. Every single shelf leaned sideways and the full bookshelf itself was now leaning on the couch. We ran screaming to my friend's bedroom. I wasn't doing the screaming, but I was definitely high-tailing it out of there. After a few minutes of squealing and screaming and debate, I thought I'd try to calm everyone down because man... screaming girls gave me a headache even way back then. LOL
So, I tried it again... "if there's really a ghost here, make your presence known." BANG. WTF was that?!! One of my friends ran with me to the living room. A picture had fallen off the wall. The rest of the young ladies stayed in the bedroom hiding out. My brave friend and I immediately ran back to the bedroom. Aw hell naw. I have no idea what was actually going on in that house. But that was my first known encounter with what I believe to have been a ghost.
Story #2
When I was in college, I had some friends that rented a house together downtown. They had told me several times that weird things happened in the house all the time. I thought they were exaggerating. Ooh, it's a big scary house, come with me, I will save you! *eye roll*
One day I decided I would hang out at their place for a change, since they always came to my place. We were sitting in the living room when the kitchen cabinets started slamming. I looked around, who is missing that could be doing this... D. D is missing. AND there's a door in the kitchen that leads to outside. So he could slam cabinets and run outside. So it's definitely not a ghost right? Wrong. After we decided it was just D messing around he yells something at us... from upstairs. There is no way to get upstairs except the stairwell in front of me in the living room. He'd been upstairs the whole time. He came to the top of the stairs and asked his question again (I don't remember what it was, I barely remember being 21ish years old LOL). There were several pictures, maybe 5, lining the stairwell; going up the wall just like the stairs. The top picture fell off the wall. It was maybe two feet from D. He couldn't have done it. He goes to pick it up and the next one falls off the wall, and the next one, and the next one! They all fell off the wall... all by themselves. HOW?! I said eff this I'm outta here and ran outside. I didn't stick around to learn if it was really a ghost or an elaborate prank. I honestly hope one of the guys reads this just so I can find out for sure. What's a ghost story you have?
